Kehen Temple is one of Bali's oldest and most significant temples, historically serving as the state temple of the Bangli Kingdom. Founded in the 11th century, the temple boasts breathtaking architecture, most notably its grand, terraced flight of stone stairs leading up to an intricately carved entrance portal guarded by mythical stone figures.
Inside the temple complex, the atmosphere is deeply magical and tranquil. A colossal, centuries-old banyan tree dominates the first courtyard, casting a cool shade over the ancient stones. The inner sanctum features an impressive 11-tiered meru (sacred shrine) dedicated to the god Shiva.
