Tirta Gangga is a former royal water palace of the Karangasem Kingdom, built in 1946. The name literally translates to "Water from the Ganges," reflecting the spiritual significance of the natural springs that feed the palace's pools. The complex is a lush, beautifully landscaped garden combining Balinese, Chinese, and European architectural elements.
The most famous attraction is the sprawling ornamental pond filled with ancient-looking stone statues and thousands of giant, colorful koi fish. Visitors can traverse the pond using a network of octagonal stepping stones, creating a magical illusion of walking on water—a highly sought-after photo opportunity. Beyond the ornamental ponds, there is also a refreshing public swimming pool fed by the cool, crystal-clear spring water.
